Nice photo from Gary featuring FACT's Luanne at yesterday's tree planting in Westerville. From My Final Photo Newsletter: Arrive early and stay late to capture exclusive moments. Being early allows you to interact with the subjects before the event and capture candid moments after. An example is a photo of FACT President Luanne Hendricks preparing for a volunteer tree-planting event. The vintage sepia tone gives the photo a timeless quality, highlighting textures and patterns. The balanced asymmetry and three-frame stitched panorama composition frame the central figure, Luanne, and the setting.

It would be nice for some public access to explore nature, but FACT has concerns about Westerville's extent of building an extensive park playground (adult & children), parking lot and more within a fairly pristine woodland forest preserve with ravines, streams, wetlands along the banks of Alum Creek. We hope to conserve this rare conservation land. Vast majority of the surrounding previous natural greenway and waterway area were long ago wiped out by commercial development - buildings, paved lots, roads, with more underway.Westerville residents are invited to help shape Westerville's new Adventure Park. Please join us at the Westerville Community Center (350 N. Cleveland Ave.) on April 25 at 6 p.m. to view proposed park plans and share your input. An additional open house will be held May 9. I thought the meeting was very positive and I liked the format. We all had opportunity to express likes, dislikes and questions about the revised plan. I applaud Parks and Rec folks for listening to the last round of resident input and revising the plan. I’m trying to be open as I hope to be part of the solution and not just a critic. It won’t be 100% what I’d like but there isn’t a plan that will make every resident happy.

Luanne Hendricks what are the upcoming volunteer events for protecting the current Westerville wild areas and waterways? Let’s use this opportunity to engage more folks in the important hands-on work organized by FACT. Your event last Sunday in Heritage Park was awesome and so much was accomplished. Image the possibilities if everyone got involved even just for an hour or two- pulling Garlic Mustard, removing Amur Honeysuckle, pick up litter and more. I’m sure there are roles for folks who can’t do physical labor - like welcoming the volunteers and etc.

Using it for parking lots is especially a bad tradeoff! Other creative solutions sharing and using existing nearby paved lots would be quite feasible if the will existed to think outside the box a little more.

There will be another public open house for comments on the revised Edge Park concept on May 9 at 6pm. Please come out and provide your input. In my personal opinion Westerville Parks & Rec has come a long way in addressing the public comments and concerns about the plan presented last year. They are still looking for input and feedback. FYI, the new proposed parking area is currently covered with invasives including Callery pear and is far from pristine.

WHY can't Westerville just leave wild spaces, WILD?

As a founder of The Leave No Child Inside Central Ohio Collaborative, natural spaces are critical for our children's healthy development, BUT and "adventure park?!" How 'bout just keeping it wild and having hiking trails where children can go off the paths to build forts with natural materials?
