Avoid throwing out leaves and grass to the curb for roadside collection. Easily recycle at home. Turn the “free stuff” into black gold or compost that will help grow your flower and vegetable gardens. Plus save on fertilizer costs and avoid chemicals.To learn how to compost, attend the Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries ( FACT) one hour workshop. Special guest speaker will provide guidance on the different types of composting, how to begin, common problems to avoid, and answer any questions.

Participants will receive a “Presto GeoBin” composter bin (1-cubic year capacity) and a composting reference guide. These items are valued over $40.00 and are provided to registered participants as part of discounted workshop fee, thanks to the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) General Grant.

Regularly Scheduled FACT Meetings:

FACT's Board of Directors meets the Monday before the second Thursday of every month, starting at 6:30 PM at various locations (including Ohio Domican University, see below directions). 

Many of FACT's general get togethers features educational programs with guest speakers from central Ohio. Past "meetings" have featured presentations on back yard conservation with native plants, rain gardens, green fertilizing techniques, representatives from various Divisions of the City of Columbus, Westerville, Bexley, Ohio Department of Natural Resources staff, special environmental reports on the Alum Creek watershed, review ongoing watershed and/or land usage issues, etc. Sometimes we might head outside with an on-site tour of a park, trail, land development, natural areas, wetlands, etc. along the Alum Creek river and riparian corridor with a local naturalists or guide.
